Smog over the city on Tuesday afternoon. The city felt the bite of chilly winds after a long break on Tuesday. At 15.5 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature was still a notch above normal on Tuesday. But the feeling of chill was brought by the low maximum temperature, the Met office said. At 22.5 degrees, the maximum was three notches below normal. “The northwesterly winds still don’t have free passage to Kolkata. But a fair amount of northerly winds is making its way to the city. The dense fog in north India is also contributing to the lower day temperature,” said GK Das, director of the India Meteorological Department, Kolkata. A trough from central Uttar Pradesh to southwest Madhya Pradesh may descend and cause rain in western districts of West Bengal from Friday. The Kolkata sky is likely to be cloudy. The chill is set to return next week, provided the system dissipates
