Kolkata Traffic Police have posted a list of programmes that might affect the city traffic on Tuesday (5.3.2024)

  • 1pm: Meeting in front of Nizam restaurant on Hogg Street
  • 1.30pm: Procession from Mahajati Sadan, 166, Chittaranjan Avenue to Shyambazar five-point crossing via Chittaranjan Avenue – Jatindra Mohan Avenue –Bhupen Bose Avenue

Traffic alert for PM’s visit

Traffic movement in parts of the city, including on EM Bypass, Parama flyover, Red Road, Rani Rashmoni Avenue and Chittaranjan Avenue, will be restricted on Tuesday evening when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in the city, police said. He will stay at Raj Bhavan. Modi is expected to land at Kolkata airport around 6.15pm and head to Raj Bhavan. “No traffic will be allowed along both flanks of the Parama flyover when the Prime Minister moves,” said an officer. On Wednesday, Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a slew of Metro projects at Esplanade at 10am, before heading for Barasat, where he will address a public rally.

Jadavpur University Holi notice

Jadavpur University has issued a circular asking everyone to maintain discipline on the campus during Holi on March 23. A notice signed by the registrar said the festival degenerates into indiscipline in classrooms, corridors and elsewhere on the campus. A former student of architecture was found dead in a pond at JU last year when the campus was shut for Holi.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation clinic

A health and wellness clinic at 2 Shah Rajab Road in Ward 75 was inaugurated on Monday. The Calcutta Municipal Corporation is setting up such clinics, which will have a doctor, a nurse and facilities to draw samples for tests.

Central forces pose exam, class worry

The state higher secondary council has asked the district inspectors of schools to send a list of government and aided schools that could face difficulty in conducting Class XI written and practical exams following central forces setting up base on the school premises. The early arrival of central forces has left many schools in Calcutta and its surroundings worried about the Class XI exams. A council official said about 25 per cent of schools are yet to conduct the exams.
