I-card scan must for IIT students

IIT Kharagpur has made it mandatory for all its students to carry their I-cards in hard or soft copy and get them scanned by a barcode scanner each and every time they enter or exit the campus. The move, the institute has said, is intended "to have a check on the movement of IIT Kharagpur students" and "to restrict unauthorised entry".

VC appointments

The high court on Monday asked the state government to file an affidavit within three weeks on the ordinance it has brought for appointing full-term vice-chancellors in state-aided universities. The order followed a case by an advocate who alleged that the state had violated the norms set by the UGC while bringing the ordinance. She contended that according to the UGC, there should be three members in the search committee for the selection of a VC and the state has kept provisions for five members.

IIT Kharagpur death probe

Rehana Ahmed, mother of the deceased IIT Kharagpur student, has written to Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee seeking her intervention so the new investigation team to probe the death of Faizan Ahmed may be allowed to function without any hindrance.

Bagdogra expansion

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista said on Monday that the central government had sanctioned Rs 3,000 crore for the expansion of the Bagdogra airport and the upgrade would begin soon.
