Axe on 36 Madhyamik examinees: Bratya

As many as 36 Madhyamik candidates were barred from writing this year s exams after images of question papers that circulated on WhatsApp were tracked down to QR codes on their question papers, education minister Bratya Basu said on Monday. Addressing a news conference on the last day of the Class X board exams, conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Basu said a racket was at work to malign the state government by circulating the images. A police probe has yet to conclude that those who circulated the images were politically motivated. On every occasion, images of a question paper surfaced while the test was still on. The minister said they would intensify their campaign to alert students about the rule that they cannot enter examination halls with mobile phones.

New medical college

A medical college and hospital with 800 beds will come up on the northern fringes of Kolkata. The foundation stone of the I-NK Medical College and Hospital was laid by chief minister Mamata Banerjee virtually on Monday. The hospital, coming up in Khamar Naobad near Rajarhat, North 24-Parganas, will be run by the Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata. "In our journey, the next destination is medical education. Furthermore, being a single specialty hospital, I-NK cannot provide service to the patients with conditions other than neurological diseases. So, for education and wider service to the patients, our plan is to establish a medical college named I-NK Medical college and a 800-bed multi-specialty general hospital on a campus to be known as Snayu Tirtha," said a spokesperson for I-NK, a non-profit collaboration of Neurosciences Foundation Bengal, Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the department of health and family welfare of the state government.
