Celsius to rise
The current spell of chill in Kolkata is likely to be interrupted towards the weekend. “The northwesterly winds now have free access to Kolkata. But from December 22-23, moisture-laden easterly winds are likely to start entering the city and stall the free flow of northwesterlies. As a result, the Celsius is likely to go up," said the official. On Monday, the Met office recorded a minimum temperature of 14.1 degrees Celsius in Alipore, a notch below normal.

IIT to offer BTech course in AI
IIT Kharagpur will offer a BTech course in artificial intelligence and data science to prepare its graduates who will work in the field of artificial intelligence in the next 20 years, the director of the institute said in his address at the 69th annual convocation.
The director, V.K. Tewari, said the institute has been offering postgraduate programmes in the field of artificial intelligence. Now, they will offer a BTech programme in this advanced discipline.
President Draupadi Murmu, who was the chief guest at the occasion, spoke about the principles of equality and justice in her address to the graduating students.
JU to seek funds for convocation
Jadavpur University will write to the state higher education department seeking Rs 50 lakh as "convocation-related expenses" because the university is facing a crippling funds crunch. The JU executive council, which met on Monday, accepted a proposal from some members for an appeal to the government for funds, said an official at the university. The amount is needed, the official said, for the repair, painting and beautification of the open-air theatre on the campus where the convocation is held, printing of the annual reports that are read out at the convocation, providing food to the degree recipients, bringing the chief guest to the campus and other purposes related to the annual event, the official said.
