December 4 -- 21.6 degrees Celsius. December 11 -- 15.3 degrees Celsius. The return of the northwesterly winds is dragging the Celsius down in Calcutta, and December is, at last, feeling like December. The Met office recorded a minimum temperature of 15.3 degrees Celsius in Alipore on Monday, the coldest day so far this season. A Met official predicted a colder Tuesday. "The Celsius is likely to dip to around 14 degrees," he said. With Jammu and Kashmir under the grip of a cold wave, the chill in Calcutta is likely to stay for now. The northwesterly winds come from Kashmir via Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. "The strong northwesterly winds have also kept the day temperature under control," said the Met official. On Monday, the maximum temperature was 24.7 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. Just a week ago, as Cyclone Michaung was wreaking havoc in Tamil Nadu, the high moisture content in Calcutta had completely stalled the flow of the northwesterly winds. The minimum temperature had then shot up to over 21 degrees. "This is the first cold spell in Calcutta this season. It should last for a few days," said the Met official
