Aviation security week

The aviation security culture week commenced at Calcutta airport on Monday. C. Pattabhi, airport director, inaugurated the programme in the presence of senior officials of the Central Industrial Security Force and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and representatives of airlines. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security will observe the aviation security culture Week from July 31 followed by various programmes, including awareness sessions, quiz contests, reward and recognition and a walkathon among other events, said an official.

Jadavpur University rule tweak for 5-year tech evening classes

Jadavpur University has reintroduced a clause that states only working professionals would be allowed to enrol in the five-year evening engineering programme. The university had dropped the clause amid Covid because many had lost their jobs during the lockdown, said a JU official. The official said that as the pandemic is now past, they have reintroduced the clause mandating at least a one-year job experience for pursuing the evening engineering programmes.

1 held for ‘selling’ govt land

A man in his early 40s has been arrested for allegedly duping people by showing plots in New Town owned by the Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) and selling them by using forged documents. The Bidhannagar commissionerate arrested Tanmay Nayek early on Monday.

According to the officer, Nayek had also sold a government-owned plot in Lake Town by using forged documents. Biswajit Ghosh, deputy commissioner of Bidhannagar Commissionerate s detective department, told Metro that so far nine cases have been registered with the department regarding a scam where fraudsters have sold Hidco plots in New Town to various buyers.
