Odisha festival
A festival showcasing the “vibrant culture, arts and music” of Odisha began at Northern Park in Bhowanipore on Wednesday. The Odisha Festival, inaugurated by Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, will continue till June 27.
A number of cultural performances are lined up. Handicrafts from Odisha are on display. On Wednesday, Odia singer Debashis Mohapatra was honoured with Utkal Sanman, an award conferred every year since 2003 on personalities with “outstanding contributions to art and culture”.
Railway minister visit
Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday visited the East-West Metro stretch between Howrah Maidan and Esplanade, including the section under the Hooghly. Later, he held a review meeting of the South Eastern Railway, Eastern Railway and Metro Railway at the Fairlie Place headquarters of the Eastern Railway.
Elephants dead
Two wild elephants died because of suspected lightning strike at a tea estate in Jalpaiguri on Tuesday night.

In the run-up to the finale, the finalists were part of a grooming workshop, which lasted a fortnight from June 5, under the guidance of a team led by supermodel Nayanika Chatterjee. On Tuesday, a panel of judges -- actor, director and producer Arindam Sil; actor-model Hasleen Kaur; sarod player Amaan Ali Bangash; director Avijit Sen, and entrepreneur and art-and-design promoter Madhu Neotia -- selected the winners after several rounds.
