Jadavpur University admissions
Jadavpur University has announced that all classes in the departments of physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, pharmaceutical technology, electrical engineering and chemical engineering have been suspended on July 18 because of undergraduate admissions in the arts faculty, said a JU official. A notice on the suspension of classes has been uploaded on the university’s website.
IIT death probe
The hearing related to the death of IIT Kharagpur student Faizan Ahmed that was to be held at Calcutta High Court on Wednesday did not take place. The SIT probing the unnatural death of the student was supposed to submit a report on the progress of the investigation in the court on Wednesday. Faizan was found dead in his hostel room on the campus in October last year.
Proposals sought for UG upgrade grants
The higher education department has asked government-run and aided colleges and government-aided universities to send proposals for the procurement of laboratory equipment, computers and furniture and construction of additional classrooms. The colleges have been asked to send proposals worth up to Rs 30 lakh to the office of the directorate of public instruction.
