Jheel pollution
The eastern zonal bench of the National Green Tribunal has asked Bengal’s chief secretary to submit a fresh affidavit on the status of pollution mitigation at Santragachhi Jheel as the earlier affidavit, filed on February 3, was found unsatisfactory. The general manager of South Eastern Railway has been asked to inform the NGT about the status of land that railways is scheduled to hand over to the state to set up a sewage treatment plant to address the problem of pollution of the water body. The next hearing is on March 18.
