Kolkata Traffic Police did not post any list of programmes that might affect the city traffic on Thursday (10.8.2023)

However, KTP posted a Traffic Notification (undersigned by Kolkata police commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal) in connection with Dress Rehearsals on 11th & 13th August, 2023 and 'Independence Day Parade’ on 15th August 2023

A)     On 11.08.2023 & 13.08. 2023 -

Restrictions for Dress Rehearsals Parade shall be imposed from 05.00 hrs till 12.00 hrs. or till completion, whichever is earlier.

1) Red Road and adjoining areas shall remain closed to vehicular traffic.

2) Restriction of East bound vehicles along Khidderpore Road from Hastings crossing and via Esplanade Ramp.

3) Vehicles travelling North along Lovers Lane shall only be allowed to travel towards West along Khidderpore Road from Lovers Lane and Khidderpore Road crossing.

4) Entire Northern Flank of Khidderpore Road from 11, Furlong Gate up to Red Road shall remain closed.

B)     On 14.08.2023 -

Red Road will be closed for all vehicular movement from 22.00 hrs on 14.08.2023 till 12.00

hrs. on 15.08.2023 or till the programme is over, whichever is earlier.

C)     On 15.08.2023 -

1) Guru Nanak Sarani (Mayo Road) will remain dosed for all vehicular traffic, except the Cars with stickers especially issued for the parade, from 08.00 hrs till the parade is over.

2) Movement of all types of Goods Vehicles shall be restricted along St. Georges Gate Road, Strand Road up to Raja Woodmunt Street, along C R Avenue from G C Avenue towards south, all along J L Nehru Road (both bound) from 06.00 hrs to 12.00 hrs or till the completion of the programme, whichever is earlier.

3) The following roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from 06.00 hrs tillthe parade is over-

a) Khidderpore Road from Hastings crossing to J & N Island.

b) R R Avenue between Y Road Tram Track and Govt. Place West.

c) Plassey Gate Road

d) Kingsway.

e) Dufferin Road.

f) Outram Road.

g) Esplanade Ramp

Govt.PlaceWest(onlyforsouthboundvehicles).

4) Parking will be prohibited on the following roads from 06.30 hrs. tillthe parade is over or as and when considered necessary by the traffic police on duty :

a) Govt. Place West between R R Avenue and Esplanade Row West.

b) Chowringhee Road_

c) J L Nehru Road.

d) Mayo Road.

5) Vehicles belonging to Parade participants will be allowed entry via Mayo Road, Dufferin Road to assembling point.

6) South bound vehicles of Old Court House Street shall be diverted along Esplanade Row East from Govt. Place East.

7) R R Avenue West bound vehicles shall be diverted from Dorina Crossing as and when necessary.

8) WBTC Buses will be allowed to enter and leave their depot at Esplanade via R R Avenue.

9) At Central Bus Terminus the buses will enter from R R Avenue by taking the route along Esplanade Row East, J L Nehru Road, R R Avenue and turn left to Central Bus Terminus and outwards journey via New Road - Dorina to destination.

10) New Road will move in opposite direction, i.e. from south to north towards Dorina crossing to facilitate the drain out of CBT vehicles.

11) Vehicular traffic may also be diverted from any of the arterial roads and feeder roads by the traffic police onduty as and when considered necessary onthe days.

12) THESE NOTIFICATIONS SHALL BE ENFORCED IN ADDITION TO THE OTHER NORMAL RESTRICTIONS ON THE DAYS,WHICH ARE NOT REPUGNANT TO THE ABOVE.

Metro third rail work

The third rail on the north-south corridor of the Metro Railway will undergo an overhaul. The steel third rail will be replaced with aluminium third rail, an official of the carrier said on Wednesday

The Metro trains draw power from the third rail."The steel-made current conducting third rail is going to be replaced with an aluminium third rail. This change shall ensure significant energy savings," said Kausik Mitra, the Metro spokesperson

The work will be done in phases. The stretch between Dum and Tollygunge will be changed first. A tender has already been floated. The replacement work will be completed in two years, said an official.

HS exams in 2 semesters

The state higher secondary council is planning to split the HS examinations into two semesters, to be held in November and March, from 2026, instead of holding annual exams, council president Chiranjeeb Bhattacharya said on Wednesday. He said the council plans to split the Class XI annual exams into two semesters as well. The plan is likely to be implemented from the batch that takes admission to Class XI in 2024, said a council official.
