ICSE council gets new chief

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has appointed Joseph Emmanuel as its new chief executive and secretary. He will take charge from May 1. The office has been vacant since September 2023, when incumbent Gerry Arathoon retired after serving in the position for close to 11 years.

Council chairman G. Immanuel told heads of affiliated schools in a circular on Wednesday: "This is to inform you that Dr Joseph Emmanuel has been appointed the Chief Executive and Secretary of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) with effect from May 01, 2024." Emmanuel has been serving as director (academics) in the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education).

WBSU convocation

West Bengal State University, Barasat, will not hold its annual convocation on April 27 because of the Lok Sabha polls, the officiating vice-chancellor of the university said. The university has been told to hold the event after the polls in early June, VC Rajkumar Kothari said.

Phone test

An iPhone belonging to Rajaram Rege, arrested in Mumbai for his suspicious movement around the house of Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee and for contacting him, has been sent for a forensic test, police said. Investigators said four persons whose numbers were found in his phone were summoned to Lalbazar. Cops said they examined the taxi driver who took him to some places in the city, including two to three sweet shops.

Metro trial run

Metro Railway will from Saturday start trial runs between Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby crossing) and Beleghata stations of the Kavi Subhash (New Garia)-airport corridor.
