Dip in temperature

The Celsius dipped to 15.2 degrees, two notches below normal, in Calcutta on Friday, the lowest in a while. At 24.6 degrees, the maximum was also four notches below normal. Cold and dry northwesterly winds have tightened their grip on Bengal, said a Met official. In pockets of Purulia, the Celsius plunged to seven degrees. Bankura and Jhargram also saw the Celsius sliding below 10 degrees. The Met office issued a cold wave alert for Purulia on Saturday as well. In Calcutta, the weekend is likely to remain cold. The Celsius is likely to rise from Monday, according to the Met forecast.

Presi entry test

The state joint entrance examination board will hold the common entrance test for admission to the undergraduate courses of Presidency University on April 27 and 28. Details have been uploaded on the board s website.

Arabul custody

Arabul Islam, Trinamul leader from Bhangar, was produced at a Baruipur court on Friday. He was arrested on Thursday for his alleged involvement in a murder during the rural polls in June last year. The court sent Arabul to 12 days police custody.
