Alert for train disruption on Sunday

A ‘mega traffic and power block’ will be taken in the Howrah suburban section on Sunday for periodic maintenance of tracks, signaling system and overhead equipment, said the spokesperson of Eastern Railway. “The power block has b een planned in Howrah-Burdwan Chord, Howrah-Bandel-Naihati, Burdwan-Howrah and Khana-Gumani sections. The block will lead to the cancellation of a pair of Howrah-Tarakeswar and Howrah-Burdwan locals on Sunday. The 13015 Howrah-­Jamalpur Kaviguru Express, 31151 and 12338 Bolpur-­Howrah Shantiniketan Express are likely to get delayed because of the maintenance work, said the official.

Convocation

The fifth convocation at St Xavier’s University will be held on February 10. This year, 888 students have graduated and will receive their degree certificates at the convocation. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, former under-secretary-general and special representative of the UN secretary-general for sustainable energy for all, will be the chief guest at the programme. He will deliver the convocation address. The governor, as visitor of the university, will preside over the function.

Trains cancelled

Multiple local trains in the Sealdah suburban section have been cancelled because of a "traffic and power block" at Majerhat station from 10.40pm on Saturday to 10.40am on Sunday. The 12-hour block is needed for electrical work in the Joka-Majerhat Metro corridor, railway officials said.
