Metro inspection

The chief commissioner of railway safety, Janak Kumar Garg, inspected the newly-built Majerhat Metro station on Sunday. He also undertook a trolley inspection from Majerhat to Taratala stations to examine the possibility of commissioning Majerhat station of Purple Line and starting train operations on this stretch, said a Metro official. The Purple Line, which aims to link Joka and Esplanade, is now operational between Joka and Taratala. The Taratala-Majerhat section has been due for commissioning for a long time.

Agriculture meet

The State Agricultural Technologists Service Association, an organisation of officers and scientists in the agriculture department of the state government, held its 73rd annual general meeting on February 3 at Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium in Alipore. Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, agriculture and parliamentary affairs minister of Bengal; Pradip Kumar Majumdar, panchayat and rural development minister; and Onkar Singh Meena, principal secretary of the agriculture department, were among the attendees. A seminar on ‘National food security and a way forward’ was held as a tribute to agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, the architect of Green Revolution.
