Weekend rain on radar
The weekend is likely to be rainy in Kolkata as another low-pressure area is brewing over the Bay of Bengal. The new system is likely to take shape over the Bay, near the Odisha coast, like the previous one earlier this week, said a Met official. The city received around 30mm of rain in the past 48 hours. While the low-pressure area moved into Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon trough has come up over south Bengal because of the system. “The trough is now passing over Daltonganj (in Jharkhand) and Digha. There is a cyclonic circulation inside the trough. On Saturday, another low-pressure area is likely to take shape over the Bay of Bengal, near the Odisha coast. Under the influence of the system, more rain is likely in coastal areas of south Bengal on Saturday and Sunday,” said G.K. Das, director, IMD, Calcutta.
