Kolkata Traffic Police have posted a list of programmes that might affect the city traffic on Friday (3.11.2023)

  • 12 noon: Procession from state BJP party office at 6, Muralidhar Sen Lane to Khadya Bhawan at 11, Mirza Ghalib Street via Chittaranjan Avenue, Dorina crossing
  • 2pm: A protest rally from Jabbar Haat on SA Farooqui Road will move along Bartalla crossing up to Bartalla Library (Koile Market)
  • 2pm: A meeting at Kachchi Sarak
  • 2pm: Procession from Statesman House near Tipu Sultan Mosque will move along Chittarnajan Avenue, Dorina crossing, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Park Street crossing, Mayo Road and will finally converge near Gandhi statue on Mayo Road

Trains cancelled

A shortage of rakes continues to lead to the cancellation of multiple trains between Bengal and the southern parts of the country, a railway official said. The 22832 Sri Satya Sai Prashanti Nilayam-Howrah Express on Friday has been cancelled. On Thursday, the 22808 MGR Chennai Central-Santragachhi Express was cancelled.

Metro tokens

Metro Railway sold 28,55,325 tokens between Chaturthi and Dashami this year, said an official of the carrier. The volume exceeded the tokens sold in the corresponding period last year by 2,47,536.

Death after falling off Quest Mall

A 22-year-old man died after falling from the sixth floor parking lot of Quest Mall on Thursday night. Police said Mohammad Aiman Rauf, a resident of Broad Street, was declared dead at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.

Vinayak Banerjee mother hospitalised

Nirmala Banerjee, economist and mother of Nobel Laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, has been admitted to a private hospital in the city in critical condition after she suffered a fall. Banerjee, 87, was admitted at RN Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences on November 1 following a fall at home the same day. She suffered a head injury from that fall, said an official of the hospital. "At present, Nirmala Banerjee is in an extremely critical condition and she is on ventilator support," the official said.
