The sky was overcast throughout Sunday but there was no rain.

The next three days are likely to be sunny before another possible wet spell between February 24 and 25, said a Met official.

A cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand was tipped to draw moisture from the Bay of Bengal and the resultant clouds were likely to bring rain to Kolkata on Sunday.

“The clouds had formed over Jharkhand but since the system was not a strong one, those were small and weak. Most of them could only reach till Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia, to the north of Kolkata,” said G.K. Das, director of IMD Kolkata.

The clouds that made it to Kolkata were not capable of causing rain, he said.

Some parts of North 24-Parganas and the Sunderbans in South 24-Parganas got rain. The clouds were fed by the moisture from the Bay, Das said.

The sun is likely to come out on Monday. Over the next three days, the sun is going to make its presence felt. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 29 and 30 degrees, according to the Met forecast.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was below 29 degrees but the day felt reasonably hot. Tuesday and Wednesday are likely to have a similar impact, said the Met official.

Between Thursday and Friday, some rain is likely in Kolkata, according to the forecast.

“Another trough of low pressure is likely to take shape over Jharkhand by then,” said Das.

On Sunday, the gloomy sky played spoilsport to outdoor activities. The footfall at parks and museums also took a beating.
