Sri Sri Academy
Around 550 children spread the message of love in the annual concert of Sri Sri Academy, Calcutta, in association with The Telegraph, Young Metro on December 16 and 17.
The children ushered in the festive season with a musical — Our World of Dr Dolittle — adapted from Hugh Lofting’s book.
The idea for the school concert was born during a discussion on the book by Class IV students.
The children loved Dr Dolittle’s bond with kids and started interpreting the story in their own way through myriad activities. The school concert was an extension of that creativity.
It had every child from the junior school taking part. Close to 30 teachers were involved in the making — from working on the script and props to mentoring the children. Some songs were composed on the occasion. The musical was a lesson on empathy that brought out the creative best and teamwork of the little ones.
The chief guest was storyteller Mira Kakkar, who said the event was a learning experience for children and parents.

The performance of the students left principal Suvina Shunglu emotional. “When 600 students and teachers work on the theme of love and compassion, magic happens and so much learning unfolds,” she said.
