Hands used to nabbing criminals tied colourful rakhis on the wrists of common people on Thursday.
Kolkata Police celebrated Raksha Bandhan by putting at the forefront their elite Winners squad, an all-women police team that conducts raids and carries out patrol duties in public places to protect vulnerable women.
Earlier in the day, police commissioner Vineet Goyal had reached Park Street police station to hand over rakhis to the female officers at a small ceremony to initiate the celebrations. Several female Winners squad members along with Nina Bhattacharya, an officer attached to the police station, tied rakhis on the wrists of Goel.
“Following that, Winners team members went to several locations, including Shyambazar crossing, South City mall crossing, Hazra crossing and New Market, to celebrate the festival with common people,” said an officer from the Winners team.
The Winners squad offered sweets to more than 400 people after tying rakhis to their hands. “The initiative has been taken to strengthen our bond with people,” said the officer.
