Kolkata Municipal Corporation sets Puja target for road repairs

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation will repair all broken roads in the city by October 5, ahead of Durga Puja, a member of its board of administrators said on Tuesday.

Ratan De, who heads the roads department of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), said the civic body had identified 450 stretches across the city that needed repairs. Engineers said the roads either suffered natural wear and tear or developed craters and cracks during the monsoon.

De said civic engineers would also ask police for a list of roads they had identified for repairs. The engineers will conduct joint surveys with the police to identify broken roads.

Park hours

About 700 KMC-run parks in the city will keep their gates open for visitors between 4pm and 6pm every day from Wednesday, in addition to being open from 6am to 9am. The civic body parks include Deshapriya Park, Maddox Square, Deshabandhu Park and Tala Park.
