Tuesday’s Nabanna Abhiyan has been called to highlight multiple political issues.

Police have denied the BJP permission to hold any such rally citing high security around the secretariat in Howrah’s Shibpur and the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC that are in place there around the year.

What: The rally will start from College Square in Kolkata and from multiple pockets in Howrah, said BJP leaders. All the groups will march towards Nabanna.

When: The rally starts at 1pm

Plan: Kolkata and Howrah police have made arrangements to stop the rallyists at multiple locations and prevent them from reaching Nabanna. Officers said the rally would be stopped in front of Turf View on AJC Bose Road, near the Hastings crossing, on Kidderpore Road and at the toll plaza of Vivekananda Setu.

Disruption: Police officers said College Street, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Howrah bridge and Vivekananda Setu will be closed to vehicular traffic on Tuesday because of the rally. The police have issued an advisory on the roads that should be avoided by commuters on Tuesday.

  • Nirmal Chandra Street and College Street: Traffic will be restricted between noon and 3pm. The police have suggested an alternative route through Lenin Sarani, Moulali and AJC Bose Road.
  • MG Road: Traffic will be restricted from noon till the end of the agitation. The suggested alternative route — APC Road-AJC Bose Road/ Sealdah flyover-Amherst Street-BB Ganguly Street/ Chittaranjan Avenue.
  • Vivekananda Setu and Howrah bridge: The police said commuters should avoid both bridges, which connect Kolkata and Howrah, from 8am to 4pm.
