A 10-month-old child who was kidnapped from Kalighat on Sunday was found on the stairs of a temple in Howrah’s Andul on Monday evening, police said.
The child’s parents had come to attend a wedding at Bharat Sevashram Sangh in Kalighat on Sunday afternoon. “The child was crying when a stranger offered to pacify him. The mother handed over the child to the man. Sometime later she could not find the man and her child,” said a police officer.
Kalighat police station was informed. Officers of the detective department checked CCTV footage and found the man had taken the child in a rickshaw to the Rashbehari crossing and boarded a bus to Howrah station.
From Howrah, he took a bus to Dhulagarh and then a toto to Andul.
The child’s father received a call on Monday evening. The caller told him about the whereabouts of the child.
The police rescued the child from the temple. “A probe is on,” an officer said.
