The general manager of Metro Railway, Kolkata P Uday Kumar, after studying the footfall pattern as well as conducting a detailed survey, has decided to increase the number of daily services on Purple Line for the benefit of Behala residents.
Metro Railway is set to double its number of daily services on the Joka-Taratala stretch (Purple Line) from May 1 (Monday) within four months of commencement of services on the stretch. There will be 24 daily services (12 UP + 12 DN) instead of 12 services between Joka and Taratala from Monday to Friday following the “One Train only System”.
The frequency of Metro services on the Joka-Taratala stretch (From Monday to Friday) will be 40 minutes instead of 60 minutes. There will be no gap of services during noon hours.
The first Metro train from Joka will be available at 8.55am and the last service from Joka will be available at 4.20pm. There will be no service gap from 12pm to 3pm from Joka in the up direction.
First Metro train from Taratala will be available at 9.20am and last service from Taratala will be available at 4.40pm. There will be no service gap from 12.30pm to 3.30pm from Taratala on the down direction.
Kausik Mitra, CPRO, Metro Railway, said the long-cherished demand of the office- goers and students will be fulfilled. This increase in the number of daily services in this route will benefit the people of that area.
There will be no commercial services on Saturdays and Sundays on this stretch.
