Hare Krishna Ranjit, a resident of Behala, told the court that a Group D staff of the court had allegedly cheated him out of Rs 70,000.

“The victim alleged that the staff member had asked for Rs 1.25 lakh for the job and claimed he had already transferred Rs 70,000 to the staff member's bank account,” said a lawyer who was present in the court on Tuesday.

Justice Gangopadhyay, after hearing the plea, sought evidence supporting the claim. After the verification, he summoned the accused to his court.

“The judge asked the deputy sheriff to hand him over to the police,” said the lawyer.

The deputy sheriff took the accused to the registrar (vigilance), through whom a police complaint would be lodged.
