Jadavpur University to hold convocation twice, on December 24 and January 3

Many graduating students could not collect the certificates for 2020 and 2021 as the convocation could not be held during the pandemic

Jadavpur University will hold its convocation on January 3 apart from conducting one on December 24.

The unusual schedule has been worked out because many graduating students did not collect the certificates for 2020 and 2021 as the convocation could not be held physically in those two years because of the pandemic.

The university had the degree certificates of the graduating students over the past two years uploaded on an online depository of JU because convocation could not be held amid the pandemic.

The university was to hold convocation twice classes but was shut again because a new variant of the coronavirus emerged. years were given the optionto download the degree certificates. “Many students did not collect the certificates and wished to collect them in a formal ceremony which the university is resuming following a drop in Covid cases.

So after the convocation is held on December 24 for the graduating students of the current year, another convocation will be held on January 3 for those who graduated in 2020 and 2021, said a JU official. The campus again reopened in the middle of February this year following a dip in cases and has not faced any pandemic-induced disruption this year.

The university will soon come up with a notice detailing the steps that have to be followed for taking part in the January 3 convocation. The campus was reopened in November 2021 following the resumption of in-person classes.

“The January 3 convocation will also be held at the open-air theatre, the usual convocation venue for the annual convocation,” JU registrar Snehamanju Basu told The Telegraph.

The annual convocation of JU is usually attended by the governor in his capacity as the chancellor of all the state universities.
