The ICSE (Class X) and ISC (Class XII) semester 2 answer scripts will be corrected at designated evaluation centres by subject experts.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has gone back to the old pattern of evaluation and scripts of one state will go to another, secretary and chief executive of CISCE, Gerry Arathoon, told Metro on Monday.

“Answer scripts of one state will go to another. Correction of scripts will be done at evaluation centres,” Arathoon said.

Council-affiliated schools serve as evaluation centres.

The semester 2 exams began last week and are going on now. ICSE began on April 25 and ISC on April 26.

Evaluation of scripts has not started yet.

The semester 1 exams that were held in November-December had only multiple-choice questions (MCQ). The evaluation was done in the respective schools on the day of the exam. Teachers from different schools who are examiners checked the answer scripts.

“Subject experts were not needed in semester 1 because it was an MCQ paper and examiners were provided with answer keys. This time all corrections will be done by subject experts,” said Arathoon.

The council has selected teachers from different schools to be examiners.

Several principals in city schools said that the answer scripts of both ICSE and ISC in semester 2 were being sealed and sent to the council.

The council will then redistribute the papers for checking.

In the old pattern, which is now being brought back, examiners would go to the evaluation centres to correct scripts throughout the day.

In 2020, when Covid struck, the corrections were partly done at evaluation centres. Some exams could not be held because of Covid and the centralised evaluation at centres was cancelled.

For some of the subjects, examiners were asked to take the answer scripts home as a precaution against Covid.

The board exams could not be held in 2021 because of Covid. For 2021-22 (ICSE and ISC) batch, the council announced two semesters.
