IIM-Calcutta has decided to recall students who are attending online classes from home as the B-school is going to start offline classes from December-end, said an official.

The institute has already recalled 75 per cent of its students because they were encountering connectivity issues coming in the way of attending online classes and these students are using the institute’s connectivity facilities to attend online classes.

The official said after the academic council recently resolved to start physical classes, remaining students have been given different windows to return.

Manish Thakur, dean (new initiatives and external relations) said: “Chairpersons of the different academic programmes have been authorised to call back students to the campus as per their schedule of offline classes”.

Classes would be held in a blended mode — allowing some students to attend the lectures in person at the classroom, while the others will attend online classes from the WiFi-enabled hostels.

Since maintaining physical distance could be a problem in classes that are large in size, this model has been chosen, said an IIM-C official.

The institute in early-November initiated an exercise to determine whether the institute has adequate preparations for starting in-person classes from November 16 – the day the Bengal government reopened its campuses for physical classes.
