Teachers at IIEST have struck down an undergraduate assessment proposal calling for giving greater weightage to the mid-semester exams, held online in March without any invigilation, compared with the end-semester exams that are to be held offline in April, an official said.
At a meeting of the senate undergraduate committee on April 7, the teachers suggested that equal weightage be given to mid- and end-semester exams of BTech students.
Officials of the Shibpur institute recently met students following a demand that end-semester exams be held online, too.
The meeting resolved that 50 per cent weightage be given to the scores of the mid-semester test, which was held online without any invigilation, and 30 per cent to the scores of the end-semester exams, which will be held on the campus.
The remaining 20 per cent weightage would be given to internal assessment.
“All the professors who attended the April 7 meeting argued against giving greater weightage to the mid-semester exams. All of them agreed on giving 40 per cent weightage to the end-semester test, 40 per cent to the mid-semester test and 20 per cent to internal assessment,” said an IIEST official.
