Little did Rahul Prasad, 30; Nandini Prasad, 30 and Aditi Gupta, 18, realise that rivalry among bus drivers on the same route in order to earn that extra buck would pull the plug on their lives.
Rahul was a happy man and a proud dad of a 13-day-old child. It was perhaps one of his happiest Pujas and he wanted to enjoy every bit of it. In one stroke, three members of the same family were mowed down by the speeding bus racing on Sealdah’s Vidyapati Setu.
On the other hand, Nilesh Gupta (16), Rishi Gupta (15) and Rohit Gupta (18) were injured. The injured were released after first-aid.
Blaming the cops for not doing the required, Irate locals said rash driving and reckless overtaking were regular issues on that stretch and elsewhere in the city and the state and without exemplary punishment, nothing is going to change.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended on Rahul’s family members and his neighbours even as his widow has not been informed yet.
The accident took place around 1:30pm.
