Hooghly girl Mehuli Ghosh has been selected in the Indian team that is set to compete in the ISSF World Shooting Championships in Cairo in October.

In August, Mehuli won gold for India in the 10-metre Air Rifle Mixed Team final at the ISSF Shooting World Cup in South Korea.

The Cairo tournament, which starts on October 12, is crucial for Mehuli as the Olympic quota will be given to the top shooters there. “She has a fair chance to win her first Olympic quota for Paris 2024. She is currently ranked 1st in India's senior team. She will also participate in a mixed team event with Arjun Babuta. It is a matter of great honour and pride as Mehuli is the only shooter from Bengal to get selected for this prestigious championship,” said her coach Bibaswan Ganguly.

Mehuli said she started preparing for the tournament after her return from South Korea last month. “I have worked hard on my technique and it has reflected in my performance. I hope to deliver my best and win the World Championship in Cairo,” she added.

Mehuli is expected to leave for Cairo on October 10.
