A crib was decked out with lights and flowers at St Xavier’s College on Park Street in the central business district of Kolkata on Wednesday for the “Homecoming of Infant Jesus”.

Three days to Christmas, Jesuit priests, teachers, staff and former students assembled at the quadrangle of the institute to unveil the crib and begin the celebrations. While inaugurating the crib, Reverend Father Jeyaraj Veluswamy, rector of St Xavier’s College, led the gathering in prayer.

Reverend Father Dominic Savio (in picture), principal of the college and president of the St Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association, led others in offering tributes to the crib. “Christmas is a festival of giving and is the time of God showing His great love for us — a time of healing and renewed strength, a season to remember and rejoice. After all, the true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of God’s ultimate gift: the birth of Jesus, the Christ child,” Father Savio said in his Christmas message.
