The state higher secondary council has revised the schedule of the theory exams in April because the dates were clashing with JEE Main, scheduled from April 16 to 21.

The higher secondary exams in Bengal, which were to be held from April 2 to 20, will be held from April 2 to 26.

In the revised schedule, the theory papers that were to be held on April 16 (chemistry, journalism and mass communication, Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic and French) have been brought forward to April 13.

The exams that had been scheduled for April 13 (commercial law and preliminaries of auditing, philosophy and sociology) have been pushed back to April 18.

“JEE Main examinees do not have this subject combination (commercial law and preliminaries of auditing, philosophy and sociology). So, the date of these exams has been postponed to April 18,” said HS council president Chiranjeeb Bhattacharya.

The theory papers scheduled for April 18 (statistics, geography, costing and taxation, home management and family resource management) have been deferred to April 25.

“The students who will appear in the statistics paper with the subject combination of physics, chemistry and mathematics may also have enrolled for JEE Main. The dates have been rescheduled for their benefit,” said a council official.

The economics theory paper scheduled for April 20 will be held on April 26.

“The students who will write the economics paper may have the subject combination of physics, chemistry and mathematics, and be JEE Main aspirants. So, this date has been revised,” the official said.

The JEE-main is held to shortlist candidates for the IITs and for admission to the NITs and IIEST Shibpur.

Bhattacharya said when they had announced the original schedule on October 1 last year, the JEE-Main dates had not been finalised.

JEE-Main is held four times a year.

The HS theory exams will be held from 10am to 1.15pm, except health and physical education, visual arts, music and vocational subjects. These exams will be for two hours.

The revised HS dates were fixed factoring in the Bengal JEE that will be held on April 23.
