The monsoon is still in its weak phase in Kolkata and heavy rain is unlikely in the city at least in the next three to four days, the Alipore Met office said on Friday.
There is no low-pressure area or cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal that could bring rain to the city over the next few days, said an official at the Met office.
Most parts of Kolkata have so far received only light rain.
The website weatherkolkata.in, run jointly by Kolkata Municipal Corporation and IIT Kharagpur, says most parts of Kolkata received only drizzle between 8pm on Thursday and 8pm on Friday.
Ultadanga received over 28mm of rain and Patuli over 2mm during the period.
“We do not see any possibility of heavy rain in the next three to four days. No favourable system has developed that could bring heavy rain to Kolkata,” said G.K. Das, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata.
The Met office had on Sunday forecast the possibility of development of a system around Friday that would have triggered heavy rain in Kolkata.
The day’s maximum temperature was 33.2 degrees Celsius, which was normal. The minimum was 27.3, a notch above normal.
Friday morning was hot and humid, but the sky became overcast around noon. Soon it started to rain and the weather became pleasant.
