Members of two groups clashed over playing of loud music till late in the night on the occasion of a puja in a Maniktala neighbourhood on Thursday night.

So far, eight persons have been arrested, police said.

The clash broke out in the locality off Maniktala Main Road on Thursday night after a group of youths protested against playing of loud music past 11pm at a club.

A few members of the club, Pallybashi Brinda, allegedly refused to pay heed to the protesters.

“When the loud music continued despite protests, one group allegedly attacked the other,” said a senior officer of Maniktala police station.

A section of residents told the police that chairs were thrown around and some of the men pulled out bamboo sticks to attack the other group.

Later, the police arrived and arrested eight persons.

A similar clash had broken out in the area last year, the police said.

Special train

A special train will run between Howrah and Raxaul (Bihar) from May 8 to June 26. The train will leave Howrah every Sunday at 12.05am and reach Raxaul the same day at 2.15pm. It will leave Raxaul at 3.45pm the same day and reach Howrah at 6.30am the next day.
