A group of bike-borne men went to the house of a real estate promoter in Bansdroni on the southern fringes of Kolkata and fired through the building’s collapsible gate on Thursday night, injuring one person, police said.
An officer said Pradip Debnath, the promoter, seemed to be the target but the bullet hit one of his associates who lives in the house at Sonali Park in Bansdroni.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. One of the accused, Subho Ghosh, is the son of an alleged criminal named Nanti Ghosh, who operates in Bansdroni, Garia, Renia and Sonarpur, the police said.

The other accused arrested was Kartick Das.
“Subho led the 11pm attack on the promoter’s house. The immediate trigger was a dispute related to developing buildings on the southern fringes of the city and the supply of building materials for the projects,” said an officer.
Debnath, who has apparently told cops that this was not the first time he was attacked, had installed at least five CCTV cameras outside and inside his house.
Some purported CCTV footage shows four men outside the house, and some others show five men. At least two men were holding guns.

It is not clear how many bullets were fired.
The police said Debnath’s associate, Abhishek Mukherjee, was injured in an arm. He has been admitted to SSKM Hospital.
“The footage helped us identify Subho and four others,” said an officer.
The police are looking for the rest of the gang members.
