Balloons and glittering ribbons greeted the students of St Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, as they entered the school gates to celebrate Children’s Day.

A day-long celebration was organised for all students — from the tiny tots of Nursery to the outgoing students of Class XII.

The little ones of the Pre-primary section enjoyed class parties, while the students of Classes II to XII witnessed musical medleys, songs, dance, poem recitals, plays and group games.

The students stepped into the school with anticipation and excitement, guessing what the teachers had planned for them and they were not disappointed.

Classes I to IV cheered as the teachers walked the ramp dressed in traditional clothes of different states of the country on the theme, unity in diversity. They hummed along as their mentors sang renditions of Bollywood songs.

Teachers danced to popular numbers such as Manike Mage Hite and Tomai Hrid Majhare Rakhbo for Classes VI to VIII.

Students of Classes IX to XII jammed along as the teachers.

The last segment of the celebration saw the teachers and students playing rounds of Dumb Charades, Guess the Tune and Antakshari.

Principal Jhuma Biswas said: “I hope my students retain their childhood innocence. I feel proud to have a team of excellent students who will become an example for others one day.”

South City International School

South City International School hosted a Fun Fiesta Carnival on November 15. Several schools and over 300 students attended the event.

The fiesta included fun activities such as toy rides and craft workshops for children to display their creative talents. Non-flame cooking, tattoo making and storytelling were also part of the event.

Photo booths were also arranged for those who like to pose. Actress Koneenica Banerjee was the chief guest. Principals from different schools were also invited.

The carnival aimed at improving the overall development of tots by instilling in them self-esteem, social integration, problem-solving abilities, cognitive and language skills.

“Children learn best when they receive and absorb information innovatively, in an environment where they can apply what they have learnt,” said principal John Bagul.

Calcutta Public School, Bidhan Park

Magic, song, dance and lots of fun — students of Calcutta Public School, Bidhan Park, got a lovely treat from their teachers on Children’s Day.

The cultural programme began with performances for Nursery to Class II in the New Hall auditorium. There was a magic show by Shyamal Kumar. He also distributed certificates to some achieving students after the hour-long show.

The teachers took over the stage with a dance performance. The helpers and ayas also performed on the occasion. The helpers wore animal costumes and presented a jungle fiesta.

After a short break, Classes III to V assembled in the auditorium for their share of the visual treat. The teachers began with an opening dance followed by a series of regional dances.

The helpers again staged the jungle fiesta. The icing on the cake was the play, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, enacted by the teachers, which left the audience mesmerised.

The teachers also presented a medley of popular film songs. The ayas of the school presented a performance on football to entertain all.

Yet another surprise performance by the teachers followed that left the audience clapping and cheering loudly.

The musical gala ended with a western dance to popular songs. The children were handed goodies by their teachers as a wrap-up to the day.

“The staff members and teachers put up a brilliant performance for the students of the junior sections. It ended with the handing over of goody bags,” said principal Protichi Lahiri Sengupta.

Rabindra Path Bhaban Academy

Rabindra Path Bhaban Academy celebrated its annual day — Moonshine Metanoia — on September 11 and 12. The theme was Breathtaking Bengal, and the students used their creativity to highlight different aspects of the state.

The school magazine Lekhoni was released on the occasion. The cultural programme included dance and music performances, a skit and a fashion show that showcased some hard work on part of the students.

A live talk show on new career opportunities for students was also part of the event. There was also an award ceremony for achievers that encouraged children to work harder.

The prize distribution of the school’s in-house P.G. Memorial Scholarship Programme was also held on the occasion.

The programme concluded with a fashion show where everything was arranged by the students — from makeup to costumes. The young fashionistas walked the ramp donning traditional attires of different districts of Bengal.

“We host the annual day every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of the school’s former secretary, my mother, Purnima Ghosh. The theme of this year’s annual day was Breathtaking Bengal, and the students prepared for it for a month,” said secretary Priyadarshi Ghosh.

Gurukul Global School, Naihati

Gurukul Global School, Naihati, celebrated Children’s Day with great enthusiasm on November 14.

The tiny tots of Pre-school and Pre-primary section came dressed up for a Go As You Like event. A magic show was organised for the students of Classes I to V. The teachers hosted a special programme for Classes VI to XII. They were treated to a medley of songs followed by a colourful dance performance. The day ended with the children dancing to the tunes of their favourite songs.

“The teachers presented colourful performances to shower love on the students. All were made to feel precious. The wide range of programmes included Go As You Like for the Pre-primary kids to mesmerising regional dance performances by the Primary teachers. The senior section enjoyed the performance by their favourite teachers,” said principal Ajitesh Gupta.
