Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan hospital on Monday celebrated Children’s Day on its premises with sweets and gifts for children undergoing treatment at the institute.
The hospital has a high-dependency unit (HDU) with 16 beds. Many of the children there now are down with dengue. “We took the opportunity to celebrate the day with the children in a small way that would make them happy,” said Pravrajika Alokaprana, assistant secretary of the hospital.
“We also want to use the day to spread the word that with new facilities we would be able to support more children,” Pravrajika Alokaprana said.
The hospital caters to children from low-income families who get treatment at a nominal cost.
On application, they are given further concessions.
“This HDU facility is a step towards treating more children. In the past, there have been occasions when we had to refer children from the ward to another hospital because of a lack of facilities but now we are able to do it here. We have so far treated close to 40 children with dengue this year,” said Jayanti Bose, senior consultant, paediatrics and neonatology, at the hospital.
The hospital runs under the auspices of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Dakshineswar.
