Make sure everyone’s choice of poison — be it whiskey, rum or beer — is on the table and well in stock. You can do all this and more with Booozie, a mobile app for your every boozy need.
The alcohol home delivery app, operational in West Bengal and Odisha since June 2022, launched a unique service for ordering drinks at popular pubs and bars in February 2023 — that too at a discounted price!
“Once a person clicks on the application, he will have access to a list of our partner pubs. The user can then browse and book drinks. Say, if a person books 10 pegs of rum through an online payment system, we (the app) will book the same amount of the drink at that pub,” said Tuneel Paul, cluster head (east), sales and marketing.
The order, once placed, remains valid for 30 days. So, no worries if you change your plans at the last moment. “A coupon will be generated and the user will have to share an OTP with the pub for the pegs to be served. We are offering a 25% to 30% discount on the pub menu,” Paul said.
Explaining how the app is providing pegs at a discounted price, Paul said, “According to the law, pubs and bars in West Bengal cannot sell alcohol by bottles. Since we are buying in large quantities, the pubs are charging us much less. For instance, a 750 ml bottle of rum yields 25 small pegs. If you divide the MRP by 25, the per-peg cost would be much lower compared to the menu price.”
The app will be particularly helpful during the festive season, when pubs are overbooked. “During Puja, most pubs are overflowing with guests and, on several occasions, customers are disappointed when they don’t get the drink of their choice. A person can, however, pre-book any number of pegs in advance with this app,” Paul said.
Booozie has a tie-up with 10-odd pubs in Kolkata, including Ambrosia, Friday Release, Farina, and Liquid Kitty. Talks are on with Moulin Rouge, Olypub and other popular drinking holes. The app is also active in Durgapur, Siliguri and Howrah in Bengal, and in Odisha. They have also very recently launched operations in Hyderabad.
Supratik Ghosh from Friday Release in Kolkata called Boozie a unique concept. “The app has great business possibilities. At present, customers are moved mostly by the offers this app provides. On the other hand, we are getting paid in advance. So, this is a win-win situation for both parties,” Ghosh said.
