Kolkata boy Garv Lakhmani clinches victory at the Guwahati Amateur Open 2022

The latest leg of the Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour featured more than 70 golfers across India

The Guwahati Amateur Open 2022, the 12th leg of the Eastern India Amateur Golf Feeder Tour 2022, was held between September 24 and 25 at Rhino Environmental Park and Training Area (REPTA), Narangi, Guwahati. The first event of the season in Guwahati featured more than 70 golfers from all over India.

Garv Lakhmani, 16, won the tournament after shooting 153 on both days. Despite leading after shooting a first-day score of two over par, the Kolkata golfer found it easy to control his nerves during the final round. Basudev Bhokta, a local golfer, finished second in the amateur division. Another local golfer Jakir Hussain finished first in the mid-amateur category after shooting 151 on both days, the best gross score of two days across all categories. He was followed by Lt. Col. Kartikeya Kukrety (158). Kalyan Sahu of Assam won the senior category with 154 , followed by Col. J.P. Singh (156), Nikhil Choudhury (160) and S.N. Chowdhury (163). Nagesh Singh of Assam took first place in the super senior category with 162, followed by Kuladhar Deka (173), Ratna Kumar Hawaibam (179) and Samarendra Basumatary (182).

K. Brahma won the ladies' competition with a score of 202, with Reetamoni Hazarika coming in second at 208. The organisers included two junior categories this time. Dhruv Gahlawat took first place in the junior category one with a score of 196, followed by Bidyadutta Naorem with a score of 204. With a score of 47 (nine holes), Aryan Bajaj won the junior category two, followed by Sharanya Bajaj (57).

The winners were presented with their awards by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), golf captain and secretary of Narangi Greens; Gaurav Bajaj, member of the governing council and chairman of the Technical, Rules and Amateur Status Committee (TRASC); and Harsh Pal Singh, director of Shristinagar Guwahati.

The Guwahati Amateur Open 2022 was sponsored by Medica, The Reliable Group, Equipped and Shristinagar Guwahati. The outdoor media partner was Balaji Ads. The tournament was managed by Protouch Sports.
