Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) launched the first of a series of four survey vessels for the Indian Navy on Sunday.
The vessel, Sandhayak, is propelled by two marine diesel engines combined with fixed pitch propellers and fitted with thrusters for manoeuvring at low speeds during surveys.
The ship will be capable of full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic survey of ports and harbour approaches. The vessel will check obstacles along the navigational channel around a port or a harbour,
Officials of Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers said. The ship was launched by Pushpa Bhatt, wife of Ajay Bhatt, the minister of state for defence, who was present on the occasion at Garden Reach.
