A first-year college student has alleged that she had been drugged and gang-raped in a party where she went with her friends.
Based on her complaint, police have arrested four youths, including three students, and detained a minor, who wrote his Class X exams this year.
A senior police officer said the student lodged a complaint on March 6, based on which the police arrested three persons on charges of molestation, wrongful restraint, outrage of modesty and criminal intimidation.
“The three accused got bail. A day later, the woman lodged a complaint of gang rape against five youths, including the three who had been arrested earlier,” said a senior officer at the Kolkata police headquarters in Lalbazar.
The deputy commissioner (south-west) of Kolkata police, Soumya Roy, said the charge of gang rape has been added based on the fresh complaint.
On Friday, the police moved for the cancellation of the bail of the trio. After being granted permission by the court, the police again took the three into custody.
Of the other two whose names figure in the complaint of gang rape, the police have arrested one and detained the minor. The minor will be produced before the juvenile justice board.
“According to the complainant, she had gone to a friend’s house to attend a party. Some of her friends gave her a spiked drink and gang-raped her there,” said an officer. She said all the accused are known to her.
“There was another woman in the party. She has not complained about any crime against her till Friday,” the officer said.
