A group of young and old cyclists assembled at the Decathlon store on Shakespeare Sarani at the crack of dawn on June 5, World Environment Day. They paddled through some of Kolkata’s central iconic streets

Dodging the early commuters, the super high humidity and Kolkata’s regular morning walkers, the group reached the Maidan
More than 100 saplings were ready to be planted — all part of the youth-driven Khelo Rugby initiative, organised now for over 20 years by former British diplomat Paul Walsh
‘This was a nice way to mark Environment Day and show our commitment to the cause of the planet. Joining with Decathlon made sense as they are very focussed on green initiatives and a huge number of our young people now work with them across the country,’ Walsh said
Decathlon East India head Bruno Araujo and Christophe Plais from Terra Indica also joined the tree planting ceremony and congratulated all the participants for their efforts and commended them to keep focussed on the environment
