All four were charged under sections of disobedience of orders promulgated by a public servant, criminal conspiracy and Section 20(2) of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003.
One of the raids was conducted on the second floor of a building at Beckbagan Row in south Kolkata from where the manager and a staff member were arrested.
Another hookah parlour on CIT Road was raided from where two staff members were arrested.
All four were charged under sections of disobedience of orders promulgated by a public servant, criminal conspiracy and Section 20(2) of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, which deals with the offence of selling or distributing cigarettes or tobacco products that do not have either on the package or on their label the specified warning and the nicotine and tar contents.
Mayor Firhad Hakim had announced earlier this month that no new licences would be issued for hookah bars and all existing licences would stand cancelled.
Following the announcement, Kolkata police and Bidhannagar police swung into action and conducted raids in multiple hookah bars.
The raids on Monday night took the arrest count to 12 in Kolkata police’s jurisdiction since the mayor’s announcement.
