Police said Kavita Kaur, the woman, was taken to a government-run hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

A senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said they received an alert from residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Tata Avenida and also the person who is in charge of security of the complex after guards found Kaur lying in a pool of blood.

Neighbours said Kaur used to stay in an apartment on the 10th floor of the complex’s G Block.

“She used to stay with her two daughters. One of them is eight years old and the other is 18. She used to interact with us and would greet anyone she met on her way,” said a neighbour who did not wish to be named.

The police have started a case of unnatural death.

“We have started a case of unnatural death. We are looking at all possibilities,” the officer said.

According to another officer, who had spoken to Kaur’s relatives, the woman had been suffering from stress because of some personal problems.

“Prima facie, it seems the woman fell from a balcony or a window,” said the officer.

In April last year, a 34-year-old man, who lived in a 14th-floor apartment at Tata Eden Court Complex in New Town, was found lying dead on the ground.

Later, the cops found that he had jumped from his apartment even as his mother tried to hold on to his shirt.
