Fire at timber godown in Nimtala area

At least five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze

A minor fire broke out in a small timber godown on Maharshi Debendra Road in north Kolkata's Nimtala area on Saturday morning, police said.

No one has been injured in the incident, a police officer said.

At least five fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the blaze which erupted around 10am.

According to Kolkata police, the fire has been brought under control.

Adjacent buildings have also been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

“A short-circuit might have caused the fire. Our officers are trying to recover files and other documents”, the officer further said.

One Killed in roof collapse

A 55-year-old man died after the roof of a single-storey building collapsed on him at his KP Roy Lane home in Garia on Friday afternoon. Mana Das was taken to MR Bangur Hospital with multiple injuries where he died.

Labourer dead

A 52-year-old labourer died after a portion of a wall of a residential building collapsed on him on Friday morning. Jagannath Roy was declared dead at SSKM Hospital.
