A woman died after being hit by a private bus on the Sealdah flyover in central Kolkata on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place on the Moulali-bound slope of the flyover, near the NRS Medical College and Hospital, around 6.30am, police said.
Namita Mallik, 50, was crossing the road when the bus hit her.
“She suffered multiple injuries and was taken to NHS hospital. She died around 7.50am,” police said.
The offending bus plies on route 234, between Golf Green and Belgharia. It was headed to Golf Green when it struck Mallik, the police said.
The driver has been arrested and the bus seized and taken to Muchipara police station.
Early hours of the day are prone to accidents in the city as many stretches are not guarded by the police. Also, fewer vehicles on roads encourage many drivers to speed.
