A woman has alleged that she was gangraped inside a car after being given soft drinks possibly laced with sedatives by at least two men, including a former friend of the complainant.

The complaint was lodged with a police station in Calcutta on Monday, following which a case has been started under IPC sections on gang rape.

No one was arrested till late on Wednesday.

The police said they have also received a complaint from the former friend of the complainant, who alleged that he had been kidnapped and kept confined in a flat in a highrise in the city.

“He was rescued by the police and admitted to MR Bangur Hospital. After receiving the complaint from the woman, cops have been posted at the hospital to ensure that he does not flee,” said an officer at the Calcutta police headquarters in Lalbazar.

“We are probing the case from all angles,” a senior officer said.

The police said a medical examination of the woman had been conducted.

The woman is said to have agreed to record her statement before a magistrate in court under Section 164 of the CrPC. But the police said she had not turned up in the court on Wednesday to get her statement recorded.

In her complaint she has said the former friend had called her asking her to join him on a long drive on Monday. After taking her to several places, she passed out inside the car when they were somewhere near EM Bypass. She has alleged that she had been gangraped after that.
