Engineering students of Jadavpur University who are members of the university’s motorsports club have built a go-kart.
The vehicle named MVK 1.0 was developed over the past five years by the members of the club and unveiled at the university’s open-air theatre on Tuesday.
A degree awarding ceremony of JU was held at the open-air theatre on Tuesday.
“Every leading engineering institution has a go-kart of its own. Jadavpur University, a premier engineering institution, has now its own go-kart,” said Rahul Halder, the chairperson of Team XLR8, the Motorsports Club of the varsity.
Rumel Alam, a second-year student of mechanical engineering who was at the wheel of the go-kart, said the vehicle could run at a maximum speed of 90kmph. “But on the metalled track of the university, I have been able to race it at a speed of 60kmph,” said Rumel.
Team XLR8 was formed in 2017 under the supervision of teachers in the mechanical engineering department.
“Through such clubs, the society intends to develop the next generation of automobile engineers,” Achintya Mukhopadhyay, a teacher of the department, said.
