The Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is probing the money trail in the alleged irregularities in recruitments in state-aided schools, on Tuesday questioned Ratna Chakraborty Bagchi, former secretary of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education.
Senior ED officials said Chakraborty Bagchi was asked to appear on Tuesday after it appeared that the agency could not connect the dots on several grounds and needed to question her for clarity.
"Ratna was the board's secretary when Manik Bhattacharya was the president. We want to clarify a few things from her, including why the total marks secured by 269 candidates who appeared for the 2014 TET examination were increased by 1 mark and under whose orders," said a senior ED official.
In October, the ED arrested Bhattacharya for his alleged links to irregularities in recruitment. The agency later said a letter found during a search at Bhattacharya’s house mentioned that Rs 7 lakh was taken from each of 44 candidates for teacher jobs.
